What if one adventure could shift your entire worldview? What if a few weeks in Fiji could inspire a lifetime of purpose, connection, and impact? If Fiji were a starting point for your Adventure Gap year?
Gen Z Fiji isn’t just about seeing the islands—it’s about becoming part of them. Designed for young travellers ready to dive deep into cultural exchange, sustainability, and personal growth, this backpacking-style expedition offers an unforgettable way to explore, learn, and contribute. It's for those wanting to obtain certifications and skill-building training, all related to adventure-based learning.
We know Gen Z wants more than a typical vacation or GAP experience. You want purpose-driven travel: adventures that are authentic, ethical, and rooted in real connection. Gen Z Fiji delivers:
Live the Culture
Stay with the Mataqali Natiliva community of Nanumi Au. Share meals, stories, and daily life while supporting local projects. You’ll learn first-hand how Fijians foster strong community ties and live in harmony with nature.
Backpack With Purpose
This isn’t a resort tour. It’s an immersive, low-impact journey through Fiji’s villages and coral coast. You’ll travel mindfully, follow Leave No Trace principles, and engage with local communities in meaningful, hands-on ways. Learn about food literacy and sustainability by working alongside Fijians in gardens, kitchens, and coastal farms. Participate in eco-building projects that strengthen local resilience and climate adaptation. Each day is grounded in community connection, cultural respect, and reciprocity, allowing you to experience the vanua - the deep relationship between people, land, and spirit - and to leave Fiji better than you found it.
Immersive Adventures
Go beyond postcards and resorts to discover the real Fiji through full immersion in its islands, oceans, and communities. Paddleboard through winding mangrove forests, hike the volcanic highlands, and dive into crystal-clear reef ecosystems. Earn your scuba certification while learning from local marine guides about coral restoration and ocean conservation. Experience the best of Fiji the way few ever do: by living it, not observing it. Phones are set aside here, giving you the rare gift of time and presence to connect with people, place, and purpose truly.
Neurodiverse Minds Welcomed
Our adventures are designed to adapt, support, and empower young adults who are neurodivergent, creating environments where everyone can learn, lead, and thrive. We also welcome those who walk the talk when it comes to progressive values: climate action, gender equality and identity, Indigenous rights, and putting people before profit. And, yes, neurotypicals are welcome too!
Gen Z Fiji is for the curious, the courageous, and the community-minded.
It’s for those who want to belong, not just visit, and who believe that travel should change both the traveller and the world for the better. Ready to pack your bag? Want to interview us while we interview you to ensure this is the right experience for you.
Connect with Community: Take part in meaningful cultural exchanges with local Fijian communities. Guided by knowledge keepers, you’ll share stories, traditions, sustainable practices, and even a one-night homestay that brings vanua.
Lead with Purpose: Engage in land-based learning, wellness, and outdoor leadership training. From navigating trails and oceanscapes to leading group initiatives, you’ll build real-world confidence, collaboration, and resilience.
Learn by Doing: Develop hands-on leadership and teamwork skills with mentorship from experienced guides and community leaders who model inclusive, values-driven leadership that inspires change.
Find Your Crew: Build lifelong friendships and create memories rooted in purpose, adventure, and a shared commitment to making a difference.
Adventure Highlights:
7-Day Remote Beach Expedition: Paddleboard, learn to spearfish, deep-sea fish, snorkel coral gardens, take part in reef protection projects, hike to a 1,500-year-old settlement, and enjoy sunsets, reflection, and solo time.
3-Day Open Water Scuba Course at VoliVoli: Earn your certification while studying marine ecology and reef health.
Supportive VCAW throughout the duration of the experience.
Fiji is quickly becoming one of Oceania’s most inspiring destinations for young people seeking purpose-driven travel and meaningful global learning experiences. It’s a place where culture runs deep, landscapes inspire awe, and community connection defines every day.
The Suncoast region, just north of Nadi, offers a side of Fiji that few visitors ever see: raw, authentic, and full of heart. Here, you’ll find sun-drenched villages, coral-fringed shores, and people who live closely with the rhythm of the land and sea. It’s the perfect setting for Gen Z travellers who want more than sightseeing and are searching for connection, contribution, and growth.
During this adventure, you’ll experience the very best of Fiji: paddling across turquoise waters, sharing meals sourced from the land and ocean, joining local conservation and community projects, and learning from the Fijian philosophy of vanua. Every moment invites you to step out of your comfort zone, disconnect from your phone, and reconnect with what truly matters: community, purpose, and the power of presence.

Accommodation: Dreamview Villa Hotel – Suncoast Region
“The Suncoast region of Fiji is one of my absolute favourite places on Earth.” – Jeff Willis
Our journey begins with an early morning arrival at Nadi International Airport. After a short welcome and regrouping, we depart for the northern Suncoast region, travelling approximately 3 hours along Fiji’s scenic western coastline.
Along the way, we stop in Ba Town for coffee at the well-known Coffee Hub, a gathering place for locals and travellers alike. By late morning, we arrive at Dream Villa, overlooking the South Pacific and surrounded by lush hills, sugar cane fields and farmland. After settling in and sharing a nourishing welcome meal, we begin our first learning session called “Fiji 101”. Our afternoon orientation introduces the World Bound Fiji learning framework, including program objectives, cultural protocols, climate realities facing the Pacific, and the people and
places we will encounter during the journey. In the early evening, we head out on a sunset snorkel and dinner boat excursion, offering our first look at Fiji’s vibrant coral ecosystems. The night concludes quietly—rest, reflection, and recovery after long travel.
Accommodation: Tenting & Hammocking – Fireside Fiji Farm Base Camp
These two days are dedicated to preparing for our remote island expedition while grounding ourselves in the rhythms of Fijian land and community. Participants stay at Fireside’s 14-acre Fiji Farm Base Camp, developed in partnership with Suncoast Adventures. We travel to Rakiraki Town, a historic coastal community, to purchase supplies for the expedition and complete a final gear check.
“Sa qai kauti keda na koro... The village takes care of us, as we learn to take care of it.”
Accommodation: Beachfront Expedition Camping (tenting)
By boat, we travel to a remote and uninhabited island in the Suncoast region, where

We travel back to the Farm basecamp and prepare for an overnight “strengthening the future” event, planting trees and stabilizing the shorelines while also connecting with local young people. “Challenge, Strive, Learn (Fireside motto)... this is how we grow, this is how we lead.”
Our final morning begins with a sunrise gratitude ceremony, Fireside’s “shirt off our back” exchange, and a heartfelt send-off.
