Day 1-2

Arrival and Vancouver Experience

Welcome to Vancouver, British Columbia! We start our adventure in this city of glass towers, green spaces, and vistas of mountain peaks and ocean.

Over these two days, we will get to know each other, plan for the adventure ahead, and explore one of Canada's most iconic cities on bike and on foot. We'll learn about local culture and history, including that of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations who have called this region for tens of thousands of years. We'll also explore the city's many beaches and green spaces, including Stanley Park, an old-growth forest in the heart of downtown.

BC Canoe Adventure

Up early, we'll head to Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal and take a scenic ferry ride to the Sunshine Coast – watch out for seals and whales! Once off the ferry, we will be picked up and transported to the Porpoise Bay Provincial Campground. At our campsite, we will share a warm welcome to the Sunshine Coast, enjoy an introduction to basic paddling skills, and prepare dinner.

And now, for the true choose-your-own-adventure magic of the Sechelt Inlet. The Inlet is dotted with beautiful boat-access-only campsites, mostly within 5–10km from Porpoise Bay. Beginner paddlers will hug the shore and check out the classic easy-to-reach campsites such as Tuwanek, Oyster Beach and Nine Mile.

Camping at Fireside's Homeplace

In a whirlwind, we’ll be whisked off bright and early from the shores of Sechelt to YVR International Airport (about a 2-hour trip to the airport). From there, we will fly to Whitehorse using Air North, one of Canada’s best-reviewed airlines. After landing, we will then head to the Fireside Homeplace, outside Whitehorse along the Yukon River, where we will stay for the night. We will perform a gear check, review camp rules, create a community contract, and introduce our Pillars:

● Independence: I have deepened my personality and sense of who I am as an individual.

● Community: I have shown that I can put the group’s interests before my own.

● Knowledge: I have increased the knowledge and skillset of myself and others.

● Experience: I have actively sought experiences that expanded my comfort zone.

● Vision: I have clarified a part of my outlook on my future.

Wild Camping

A shuttle will take us to the start of the Teslin River, which is a perfect entry point for less experienced paddlers. Over the first few days, we will explore the incredible Teslin River.

This river starts off slow, then begins to speed up as we get closer to the Yukon River. The landscape weaves and changes as we adventure through the historic Teslin River region. Each day, the group will become stronger, more competent adventurers as they practice their paddling and outdoor skills.

Eventually, we will meet the majestic Yukon River and say goodbye to the Teslin. The river speeds up, landscapes continue to change, and we have a chance to visit an abandoned sternwheeler, the old Little Salmon Village, and more traces of the Yukon’s history. We will arrive in Carmacks in the late afternoon, pausing for a quick shower, and return to the Fireside Homeplace.

Whitehorse to Vancouver

For our final day, we will take in the sights and explore Whitehorse. We'll celebrate the conclusion of our adventure together, reminiscing about the fun we've had and acknowledging the growth we've seen in each other.

Depending on flights home, we will be up early to pack up the camp and ensure everyone makes it home. As we like to say, "See ya later!"
